what will my child do each day at preschool?
Preschool presents opportunities for your children to grow socially, emotionally, and physically in a caring environment. Your children will begin to learn the social skills necessary to succeed in kindergarten. The children will form friendships that will last throughout their school years. Listed below are many of the activities that are scheduled during a typical preschool day.
Circle Time: Songs, finger plays, and stories are examples of activities during this time. Children are encouraged to express their ideas to help develop language skills.
Play Room: Each day includes time in the large play room where children can ride the bikes, climb the jungle gym, and enjoy open playtime. This helps develop large motor skills.
Free Play: Children can choose to paint, make crafts, play with puzzles, build with blocks, etc. Through play, children learn to express themselves and develop problem-solving skills. These types of activities help develop hand-eye coordination. Social skills are developed as children learn to work with one another.
Weekly Music: Once a week, a music specialist works with each class. The children will learn simple songs, play with rhythm instruments and begin to appreciate music as an art form.
Special Story Time: Several times throughout the year, individuals will share their special story telling skills with the children.
Artist in Residence: Throughout the school year, an Art Goes to School volunteer brings her talents and love of art to the children. The children view works of art and create their own masterpieces.
Snack Time: Small bodies need frequent nourishment. During snack time, children work on manners and other social skills.
Filmstrip/Video Time: Age appropriate materials are carefully selected to complement classroom themes and learning objectives. Some contain Bible stories and all are designed to reinforce family values.
Group Time: This time is devoted to activites related to a special theme. Teachers plan activities based on the theme of the week. |
